Technis runs as containers on a small group of servers at home. Each service is described in a version-controlled repository, so every change is reviewable and repeatable.

Building Blocks

Services run as Docker Compose stacks spread across several hosts. Keeping each host’s role clear limits how much one failure can take down. See Infrastructure for the hosts.
Outside traffic arrives through Cloudflare. A reverse proxy routes each request, and a sign-in portal with 2FA protects member services.
Irreplaceable data, service configuration, and replaceable media are protected differently. Backups use local hardware, not cloud storage.
Health checks and metrics feed the status page. The goal is for the status page to stay reachable even when the home network is down.

Reliability Targets

These are internal goals, not service guarantees. Some aren’t tested yet.
Future engineering posts will cover how each target is tested.
